Teaching citizens to take action.

Most people have no disaster plan at all.  They believe that in the event of a disaster, emergency services will rush to their front door to aid them.  This video proves that is not always, or even usually, the case.  When a disaster strikes, services may be stretched to their limit leaving citizens to fend for themselves.  Drawing on the experiences of various communities, this video helps community leaders teach citizens that instead of being totally reliant on the government and emergency services, they can take steps to empower themselves.  It is easier than they think.  Something as simple as picking up a few extra bandages or batteries for their disaster kit can go a long way in surviving the effects of an emergency.  With their newly gained disaster prep knowledge they and their families will feel confident about dealing with any emergency.

What this video teaches:

The different types of disasters.

How some disasters could hinder government and emergency services from giving immediate help to everyone in need.

The importance of having a plan specifically for the disasters most likely to occur in your area.

What to include in a disaster kit.

How to stay in contact with family members during a disaster.

What to do with pets during a disaster.

It is a valuable resource that helps us reinforce an important message to our citizens: 'Prepare for the unexpected.' "   Larry Stern, Director of Emergency Management, City of Boulder, CO and surrounding unincorporated areas
